The Colorado Office of the Attorney General, It’s On Us™ Fort Collins Steering Committee, Colorado State University, the City of Fort Collins, and the Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (SAVA) Center collaborated to offer the nation’s first statewide summit on April 10, 2017 on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins.
As the first It’s On Us ™ Community in the United States, It’s On Us ™ Fort Collins was excited to lead the planning of this Summit at a broader level. The It’s On Us™ Colorado Summit brought Colorado stakeholders together to establish relationships and enhance commitments to end sexual violence.
Summit content was created to educate and involve stakeholders at all levels, including elected officials; business leaders; sexual violence prevention and education professionals; campus/university administrators; municipal staff and leadership; and students.
Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman was the event’s keynote speaker. Other speakers and panelists included Dr. Tony Frank, President of Colorado State University; Monica Rivera, Director of the Women & Gender Advocacy Center, Colorado State University; Dr. Lea Hanson, It’s On Us™ Fort Collins Program Director; Gino Campana, former Fort Collins City Council member, and more.
As a result of the event, a statewide steering committee was created and is led by staff from Attorney General Coffman’s office. The committee aims to guide and support other cities that want to become It’s On Us communities, identify and manage efforts that can be addressed at the state level, and create a broader awareness regarding the important of the topics of sexual violence.
